Through live interviews, reconstructed interviews, archive material and documentary footage, this film traces the history and the struggles of Sardinian miners from 1906 to today. It is one of the most beautiful documentaries of Italian cinema. The film features an exemplary usage of the various techniques it employs, including fiction; above all, it features an original way of alternating them in the editing of the various segments of the film.
Noisottus is something more than a beautiful historical reconstruction or an effective educational documentary: it is the proposal of a new and free way of conceiving the documentary film form, it is an example of essayistic cinema. The fact that this film has remained practically unknown says a lot on the marginalization from which the documentary film has suffered, suffers and will certainly continue to suffer in Italy
