First expedition carried out with a film camera to the Chaco Jungle, carried out by Emil Heager with the guide Mauricio Jesperson. The silent, black and white documentary film, “Following the Indian Trails of the Pilcomayo River,” was filmed in 1920 (exactly 100 years ago) within the framework of a Swedish scientific-commercial expedition led by Gustav Emil Haeger through the indigenous territory. of the Formosa Chaco, conquered in those years by the Argentine State. The film, the first from the Pilcomayo region and possibly from the Chaco region, which was unknown in Argentina, narrates the journey of the expedition and the daily life of Creole and Pilagá indigenous settlers near the current cities of Las Lomitas and Pozo del Tigre in the Province of Formosa. The material belongs to the archive of the current Museum of World Culture, repository of the collections of the former Ethnographic Museum of Gothenburg in Sweden.
