In a so-called land sparing approach, food production is concentrated on the most fertile soil, thereby lowering the land used for agriculture and thus making space for nature. But while scientists slowly reach a consensus, the world moves in exactly the opposite direction. How is it possible that extensive agriculture has such a positive image when it come to sustainability? And why does the idea of land sparing not leave academia?
