Based on a short story by K.T. Chikkana, 'Chicken Curry' is the story of a poor woman who undergoes tremendous sacrifices and difficulties just to provide her beloved ten-year-old daughter the taste of chicken curry. Deprived of motherly love at a tender age, Hucheeri is married off by her stepmother to a drunkard, separated from her loving father and her idyllic village. As a teenager she moves to another village to shoulder these responsibilities together with caring for her ailing mother - in - law and her own growing daughter. She is illiterate and works as a maid and laborer in various households. In her day-to-day struggles to keep her family afloat she resorts to small lies. The village Chieftan's laborer, Gendakala, eyes her with lust. She is a woman of integrity and wards off his sexual advances. Hucheeri's daughter informs her of chicken curry being prepared at the Chieftan's home. She cooks some rice in the hope of getting some chicken curry to fulfill her daughter's craving just once. Since she had lost her mother at a very young age she would undergo any hardship to make her ten year old happy. But, would she be successful? Narration of events that happen in a span of 24 hours in Hucheeri's life is a larger story of women's struggles traditional and modern who have had to fight injustices just to survive despite patriarchal and societal pressures.
